| As you may have heard, Detmar is no longer making their steering systems for boats. We bought up as many of these as we could find. We still have a few sizes left. But there is hope for replacing your steering system. Teleflex makes a model that is a direct bolt in replacement for the Detmars. This means you do not have to alter your dash, no additional cutting or drilling. Measure the cable the same as for your OEM Detmar cable. Just follow this link and use the drop-down to find your

Cable Steering Systems
This page has information on how to measure for the length of steering cable needed. Please look to the left under
"Steering (Cable Systems)" and click on a style of system for more information.
How To Determine Cable Length.
For New Installation: Measure cable routing path in boat as follows:
A= Center line of wheel to gunwale.
B= Dash to transom.
C= Gunwale to centerline of cable connection at the center of the tiller.
For Tilt Tube Mounting, add A, B & C + 6", round up to next even foot.
For Transom/Splashwell/Stringer Support Mounting, add A, B & C, then subtract 6" and round up to the next even foot. Order that length cable. That formula works for both rack and rotary steering.

For Rack Steering Cable Replacement:
Measure Existing Cable as follows:
Measure plastic cable jacket (casing, dimension "Y") in inches, add 30", and round up to the next even foot. Order that length cable.
For Rotary Steering Cable Replacement:
Measure Existing Cable as Follows:
Measure plastic cable jacket (casing, dimension "Y") in inches, add 18", and round up to the next even foot. Order that length cable.
